American Corner Gaza Discusses the Role and Legacy of Abraham Lincoln

The Consulate arranged for an expert speaker to join students at the American Corner in Gaza via digital video conference on April 2, for a discussion of President Lincoln’s life and impact on African American History. The students asked probing questions about the long-term consequences of the Emancipation Proclamation, post-Civil War reconstruction and reconciliation, the injustices that led to the Civil Rights Movement, and the struggle of African Americans to achieve equal rights in American society. The speaker fielded each question with informative answers and was rewarded by student requests that he return for more presentations!
